The embarrassing reason we didn't start a community!
The latest news from StreamAlive and the world of online, offline, and hybrid live events.
Hi there!
In this newsletter…
The problem with starting a community
Get up to $100 when you refer a friend
Why is starting a community for a product so hard?
It shouldn’t be so hard to start a community for your product.
Especially after we had community building expert, Suhas Motwani do an entire workshop on how to start a community.
We’ve been talking for months about starting a community for StreamAlive users.
Our users have been asking us for months for a community where they can connect with other users.
So what was stopping us?
It’s quite embarrassing really.
We couldn’t decide or agree on which platform to start our community.
Yeah, I know. The simplest decision was the hardest to make.
Should we build our community on Slack (what, are we only for corporate users?!), or on Discord (Wait, do corporates even know about Discord?!), or Facebook (Who even uses Facebook anymore except your Mom?!), or LinkedIn (where communities go to die), or on a purpose built community app (Ex-peeeensive!)?
The decision paralyzed us.
Then Lux (who happens to be the CEO of StreamAlive, so we have to occassionally listen to him) made a decision.
“Right. Enough of this, we’re going to build our community on Facebook.”
We protested.
“But who even uses Facebook?!”
“Does Facebook even still exist?”
“I thought you had to be a boomer to use Facebook.”
“I deleted my Facebook years ago.”
“I don’t even have a Facebook account!”
“Facebook banned me for spamming.” (true story)
But Lux put his foot down.
So now we have a StreamAlive Facebook community for our users.
If you can remember your Facebook password, we’d love for you to join us and other StreamAlive users!
::Serious Face::
In all seriousness, there is a good reason Lux decided that we’d build our community on Facebook.
Facebook isn’t the hollow, empty shell that younger people think it is.
There are loads of big, popular, cool companies building their communities on Facebook.
One of the most popular communities around livestreaming, the Ecamm users are the most passionate we’ve seen when it comes to livestreaming
And when we saw lots of people asking about StreamAlive in the Ecamm community, it made it a no brainer to start our community on Facebook.
One of the fastest growing multi-stream platforms around, their Facebook community is growing by leaps and bounds.
StreamYard has over 31,000 members, making it the biggest product-led streaming community! Every day its users are asking for advice, reporting bugs and HELPING each other run better livestreams.
Another huge community for fans of restream.io. It’s full of tips, help and advice from its friendly community.
We think we’ll be in excellent company by starting our community of Facebook. We hope to see you there soon!
