Should you be building your personal brand online?
The latest news from StreamAlive and the world of online, offline, and hybrid live events.
Hi there!
Building a personal brand is high on the agenda for many people. But is it something only extroverts and certain personality types can do?
What about for introverts or those with imposter syndrome?
Do you have a little voice in your head wondering whether people really want to hear what you have to say?
And how exactly do you go about creating content that hasn’t already been said and done before?
We’ve been thinking a lot about personal branding over the last few months and honestly we still have more questions than answers.
It all started with our workshops which featured guest speakers.
First with Roshan Abbas, then Gwyn Wansbrough, and finally with Devaiah Bopanna.
For example, when we did our recent webinar with Devaiah, a single post on LinkedIn by him generated hundreds of signups to the webinar.
Roshan, Gwyn and Devaiah have built such strong personal brands online that people are more than willing to give up an hour of their day to hear them speak.
That’s really powerful stuff.
At StreamAlive we know that we should be spending more time developing the personal brands of our team members (some of us are TED-speaking, stand-up comedians!) but frankly we’re a little lost on where to start.
Or too hesitant to create some content and have an audience of one.
Fortunately, we have access to the likes of Manish Pandey and Abhishek Ponia*. Two people who know more about content creation and building an online audience than anyone else we know.
(* we’re proud to say that they are both on our board of advisors!)
Although Manish is very humble about it, he has over 120,000 followers on Twitter/X, and 50,000 followers on LinkedIn. Built over the years thanks to his focus on enabling content creators in India’s smaller towns and cities.
And rather more fortunately for you, Manish and Abhishek agreed to host a workshop on how to build your own online audience.
How to build an online audience (a workshop)
If content creation, personal branding, or building an online audience is something you’ve been meaning to learn about, or you already have an audience and want to hone your skills, this workshop will be for you.
Putting an end to cliches
Before the workshop with Manish and Abhishek, we have another workshop coming up on September 5th (that’s today).
It’ll help you stop killing birds with stones.
How?
Well, what’s common among the best teachers, preachers, marketers, writers, politicians, comedians, and storytellers?
👉They use analogies, not cliches.
Analogies are everywhere in life: from writing to work, cliches, comedy, memes, and more.
In this fun and interactive workshop, we will start you on the path to crafting compelling and unique analogies—and stop killing birds.
📆 September 5th
⌚12 noon EST | 9:30pm IST
Join us to:
Learn why analogies are important
Get a formula to think up your own unique analogies
Stop using cliches and start recognizing analogies in everyday life
The Slide-Streaming & Livestreaming TL;DR
It’s been a busy week in the world of livestreaming and slide-streaming. Here’s a rundown of the stories we’ve been reading:
⭐What’s the point of a personal brand?
If you haven’t thought about personal branding before, or think it’s something only influencers do, this HBR article might change your mind. In large, successful companies, everyone in senior leadership is a high performer. What will set you apart from the crowd? A personal brand, and standing for something. The same can be said in any competitive industry. What sets you apart in a sea of high calibre individuals? A personal brand.
🏢How companies can build a better hybrid work environment (using Zoom)
For remote employees connecting to meetings that are taking place in the office, they can often feel sidelined and left out of the conversations. It’s difficult to make your opinion heard when you’re not sure if it’s the right moment to interject with your ideas. Zoom has some ideas on how that can be solved.
💄The exploding GRWM trend in videos
So, what is the GRWM trend? GRWM stands for Get Ready With Me, and it follows the content creator livestreaming their journey through getting ready for a date, an event, a night out, or something else. For content creators, GRWM videos are often a bigger draw than their ‘main’ videos.
🚀Has SpaceX abandoned YouTube livestreams of its launches?
Every SpaceX launch attracts hundreds of thousands of viewers to its livestreams on YouTube. However, this weekend’s launch was only streamed on X. It looks like Musk has abandoned YouTube in favor of promoting X’s livestream capabilities.
